Who Wielded the Black Lightsaber?

Star Wars is full of legends and fascinating ideas and tales. Among them, there is a legend that is particularly enticing to any lightsaber enthusiast. That tale is of the black lightsaber known as the darksaber. It’s an odd lightsaber that has a curved shape, a dark blade and interesting characteristics. If you find yourself drawn to the darksaber like so many others, you might be interested in more of its history. This is a list of everyone who is known to have used the darksaber in combat.

Tarre Vizsla

Vizsla was the creator of the darksaber and an absolute legend in Star Wars lore. He was a Mandalorian warrior, and the first Mandalorian to become a Jedi. He wielded the darksaber throughout his career, and it was his iconic weapon as he rose the ranks and became the ruler of Mandalore — earning him the title “Mandalore.”

The saber was his throughout his life, but after his passing, it was kept in the halls of the Jedi temple to celebrate him.

Pre Vizsla

Eventually, the Mandalorians decided the darksaber should be with them instead of the Jedi Order, and it was stolen. For generations, it was kept by House Vizsla as a symbol of power and prestige, and Vizsla was one of the dominant houses among the Mandalorians.

Through this lineage, it came into the possession of Pre Vizsla during the Mandalorian civil war. Pre used the saber in many fights, and was able to find a large amount of success, but one bad decision brought it all down.

Darth Maul

Pre Vizsla worked alongside Darth Maul during the civil war. Eventually, Vizsla betrayed Maul, and when that happened, it was Maul who walked away the survivor — and the new owner of the darksaber. He wielded it happily until he was defeated by Darth Sidious.

At that point, the saber was lost for some time, but Maul eventually recovered it and used it to great effect for years. After Maul’s time, the darksaber was unseen for some time.

Sabine Wren

Sabine Wren stumbled across the darksaber during the Imperial Era. Wren was a Mandalorian, and when she realized what she had found, she sought out training to use the saber. She worked with a Jedi and became a master of the weapon.

 Bo-Katan Kryze

Wren, with much success under her belt, eventually passed the darksaber to Bo-Katan Kryze. Kryze took training and the weapon and was able to rally the Mandalorians and become the new Mandalore.
